I'm very honoured to be able to contribute my drawing, Lookin' Fer A Place T' Happen, to the group exhibition That Night in Toronto at Mayberry Fine Art in Toronto. The show includes great work by other Canadian artists including Danielle Krysa (aka. The Jealous Curator) who organized this show. Ten contemporary Canadian artists will be paying tribute to Gord Downie of The Tragically Hip by interpreting lyrics in their own way. Twenty per cent of sales will be donated to the Gord Downie Fund for Brain Cancer Research @sunnybrookhsc.

I wanted to choose a song from the Hip's earlier repertoire because those are the albums I listened to most – Full Completely was on heavy rotation during my high school days. I have some great memories of seeing the Hip perform live a few times during those years. These days, I still connect with their music, especially Gord's lyrics that are often inspired by Canada. I love how he uses the people and places from our history to spin his own poetic perspective and create tall tales of his own. My work is often recognized for its Canadiana themes too but, like Gord, I'm trying to devise a world of my own that helps me, and possibly others, to understand what's going on in reality. The song Looking For A Place To Happen was a perfect fit for me because it epitomizes all of this. "I've got a job, I explore, I follow every little whiff, and I want my life to smell like this" ... this song is my life now. "Looking for a place to happen, making stops along the way"... this is what I do every time I set out to create a new drawing. That's how I found Yawnder, Beyawnder, etc... those are the places for me where things happen. "So I'll paint a scene from memory" ... because those places are only in my mind. Substitute Ol' Jiggs for "Jacques Cartier" and this song could be all about Yawnder.

Wayward ho, away we go.

For the March issue of Literary Review Canada magazine, I was commissioned to do all of the illustration work. Here's the cover. It's a little different than what I normally do. You can also find the other spot illustrations in editorial section.

My solo exhibition, Greetings From Yawnder!, opened October 7 at the Robert McLaughlin Gallery in Oshawa, ON. The show features 80+ pieces including many new drawings, installations and interactive activities. A catalogue of new works featured in the show, titled Field Guide to Yawnder, has been produced in conjunction with the exhibition with a 2000 word essay by RMG curator, Sonya Jones. It's up at the RMG until January 15th, 2017 before traveling to the Art Gallery of Sudbury in February 2017.
