Since 2008, Jay Dart has been exhibiting drawings from the Yawnder series in galleries and art fairs throughout North America and Europe. Below you’ll find examples from this series with links to the collection of works that they were shown alongside. For each exhibition, Dart expands on the ongoing narrative that has been developing throughout the series. The two-dimensional works are accompanied by mixed media installations that add an experiential element within the exhibition spaces. He has designed and authored bookworks from this series including Where Yawns Go: Volume 1 that brings together drawings up to 2015 in order to tell the first two chapters of the story of Yawnder.
In 2016, Dart’s first public gallery solo exhibition, Greetings From Yawnder!, featured 80+ drawings and installation pieces from this series. The exhibition opened at the Robert McLaughlin Gallery in October 2016 before travelling to the Art Gallery of Sudbury in February 2017. The accompanying catalogue for this exhibition, Field Guide to Yawnder, is included in the Art Gallery of Ontario bookstore. Check out the Bookworks link for more info.
Currently, Dart is working on Volume 2 that will present the next two chapters in this epic tale from images that were exhibited since 2015. He has also been developing animated versions of works from this series in order to present them on new platforms.
